The sound of an Orsimer name
Orc names in The Elder Scrolls share a distinctive shape. Male names often start with hard sounds like Gor, Dush, or Bur, then end in sharp consonants. Female names tend to begin with Bog, Sha, or Ush and end with softer trailing syllables. Almost all are followed by gro for sons or gra for daughters, then the father's name. This pattern, like Ghorbash gro Dushnamub, is what makes a name feel truly Orsimer rather than a generic fantasy orc.
Names for the strongholds
If your character lives in a stronghold like Largashbur or Mor Khazgur, their name should fit beside the chief and the wise woman. Strongholds value strength, craft, and lineage, so traditional patronymics matter. Generate a name, then decide which stronghold raised them. That single choice will inform their accent, their grudges, and which clans they refuse to trade with.
City Orcs and wanderers
Not every Orsimer follows the old code. City Orcs in Markarth, Whiterun, or Solitude often drop the gro or gra title and take a single name to fit Imperial custom. A blacksmith named simply Ghorza feels different from Ghorza gra Bagol, even though both names are valid. Use the generator to find a strong root name, then decide whether your character clings to tradition or has set it aside.
Warriors, smiths, and mages
Orsimer roles shape how a name lands in play. A berserker might pair their name with a brutal nickname earned in battle. A master smith could be known across the hold by their forge mark. A rare Orc mage might wear a quieter name that hints at study rather than fury. When you roll a name, ask which path your character walks. The same name suits very different stories depending on the answer.
Bringing your Orsimer to life
Pick a name, choose a stronghold or city, and decide one promise your character has sworn. Maybe to avenge a fallen chief, maybe to forge the finest blade in Skyrim. With a true Orsimer name and a single oath, your hunter, smith, or warrior is ready to step out of the longhouse and into the snow.
