Where do Tamriel's Redguards come from?
The Redguards are natives of the province of Hammerfell in Tamriel. Their homeland is a harsh and unforgiving land, with little in the way of natural resources. For this reason, the Redguards have always been a hardy and independent people.
The first recorded mention of the Redguards is in the Year 1 First Era, when they were said to have come from Akavir. It is unknown if they migrated there from another continent, or if they were the original inhabitants of Akavir. What is known is that they left Akavir sometime before the Year 200 of the First Era, and made their way to Tamriel.
They settled in Hammerfell, where they quickly made a name for themselves as fierce warriors and master craftsmen.
Why are Redguards such good warriors?
Redguards are the most naturally talented warriors in Tamriel. Their homeland of Hammerfell is an unforgiving place, and only the strong survive. Redguards have to be tough to make it in their harsh land. This natural toughness makes them great warriors.
Redguards also have a strong military tradition. Every Redguard is raised from birth to be a warrior. It is their duty to protect their people, and they take this responsibility very seriously. This martial upbringing makes Redguards excellent soldiers.
In addition to their natural talent and training, Redguards also have a special connection to the Warrior Constellation. This gives them added strength in battle and makes them even more formidable foes. No one fights quite like a Redguard warrior!
A history of Redguards
An ancient race of manorial warriors from the continent of Yokuda in the realm of Tamriel, the Redguards are also known as the Imperial Redguards or Redguard Kings. They are a distinct culture and spiritual people who have lived as nomads, pirates, and warriors for millennia and have developed a reputation for being fiercely independent. It is believed that a group of Yokudi settlers who arrived in Tamriel around 750 years ago and intermarried with the local human population are the ancestors of the Redguard. The "Yokudans," this ancestor group, is credited with reshaping the western continent and establishing the Redguard civilization, which has shaped Tamrielic history ever since. The Redguard Chronicles are a collection of archival documents that discuss the earliest Redguard records. The Akaviri Samurai, a powerful seafaring race of warriors, are thought to have been the Redguard people's ancestors, as documented in these documents by Meric-Lirr, a Redguard historian. The Akaviri Samurai were highly skilled in martial arts and other forms of combat when they arrived in Yokuda from their eastern homeland, Akavir, approximately 1000 years earlier. Frandar Hunding, a Yokudan hero who came from Akavir to Yokuda and united the Yokudan clans into the first Redguard Kingdom, is also mentioned in the Redguard Chronicles. He established a code of honor and martial skill that served as the foundation for Redguard culture for many centuries to come. The Crown of Hammerfell, which emerged from the ashes of the Akaviri Samurai in the 8th century CE, is the earliest known Redguard dynasty. Harald, a warrior king, led this dynasty. For more than a century, the Redguard Kingdoms flourished and spread their influence across the western shores of Tamriel. However, in the ninth century, they began to decline as a result of a series of wars with the Bretons of High Rock. In the 10th century, the Redguard Kingdoms of Hammerfell and Shalgora were established. These kingdoms eventually gave rise to the Daggerfall Covenant, which during the Second Era brought together a number of the Redguard Kingdoms in a loose alliance. The Redguards of High Rock, Hammerfell, and Shalgora once more rose to prominence under the direction of High King Emeric. The Redguards have maintained their deity-centered religion and unified identity over time, staying true to their roots. The Redguards are now dispersed across Tamriel's entire continent since the Daggerfall Covenant was destroyed. The Redguards have always persevered to remain an essential and distinctive component of Tamrielic culture, despite their wanderings.
