Names that carry centuries
In World of Darkness, age is power and exposure. An elder who still goes by Lady Aurelia von Stein is telling you exactly how old she is, how attached she is to her mortal bloodline, and how little she fears being tracked. A younger Kindred named simply Vex or Cinder is telling you they joined the anarchs last decade and never want to be traced back to who they were before. The generator leans into that contrast, giving you grand mortal-style names for elders and stripped-down handles for the newly Embraced.
Clan and covenant flavor
Different clans tend to favor different naming patterns. Ventrue and Tremere often keep formal mortal surnames, sometimes with titles like Madame, Don, or Magister attached. Brujah and Gangrel lean into chosen names, road names, and aliases that sound like band members or biker handles. Toreador hide behind stage names, while Nosferatu sometimes drop names entirely and answer to whatever the rumor mill calls them. Use the generator to surface options, then pick the version that fits your clan, covenant, and city. A Lasombra archbishop named Father Octavio Reyes hits very differently than a Caitiff fledgling named Kit.
Building the Kindred behind the name
Once a name lands, let it suggest a chronicle hook. Why does the elder still use a mortal name long erased from public records? What did the fledgling call themselves before they picked their new handle, and who still knows? Use the generated names for player characters, coterie rivals, primogen council seats, hunters with vampire targets, or NPCs who only get one scene but need to feel real. Reroll until a name fits, then let your Storyteller use it against you.
Naming the Undead
Choosing a Kindred name should reflect their clan, domain, and age. Consider these:
- Does the name reflect a European, Latin, or modern origin?
- Does it hint at their Clan (e.g., Ventrue, Toreador) or status?
- Should it sound noble, mysterious, or tragically romantic?
- Will it include a "Von," "Le," "La," or another signifier of status?
- Does the name capture their personal history or current ambition?
Kindred Name FAQs
Common questions about naming your World of Darkness vampire:
How are Kindred names generated?
The generator mixes first names and surnames inspired by various European and classical influences, often adding status-reflecting prefixes to evoke the Kindred’s ancient, aristocratic vibe.
Are these names specific to a single clan?
Names are broad enough to fit most Kindred Clans, though you might find certain combinations that feel more appropriate for a Ventrue, Toreador, or Tremere.
Can I use these names for mortals?
Absolutely-while styled for the Kindred, many names are classic or historical enough to be used for mortals in the World of Darkness setting.
How many names can I generate?
Unlimited-click as often as you like to explore the full lexicon of the undead.
How do I copy or save a name?
