Two names, one pact
In Geist: The Sin-Eaters, the Bound is a person who died and accepted a passenger to come back. Their living name still works at the bank and on the lease. Their Geist name is something else, often a title the ghost gave itself in the long years before the bargain. Good pairs play off each other. A quiet librarian named Iris Vaughn might ride with The Drowned Conductor. A mechanic called Reggie Salas might host She Who Counts The Coffin Nails. The contrast tells a story before any dice hit the table.
Krewe context
Most Bound belong to a Krewe, a small cult built around shared philosophy about death. Names should hint at the Krewe's creed without spelling it out. A Furies-aligned Krewe favors names with judgment in them. A Mourners Krewe leans tender, almost liturgical. A Necropolitan Krewe sounds bureaucratic, like funeral directors who never clock out.
How to use the output
- Roll a mortal name and a Geist title together, then write one sentence about how they met.
- Decide which name the Bound introduces first to other supernaturals.
- Pick a third name only the Geist knows, and never speak it aloud at the table.
Hooks
Maybe the Geist's name appears on an old gravestone the Bound has never visited. Maybe another Krewe claims the title belongs to their dead founder. Let the names pull the chronicle toward the Underworld.
The Pact's Echo
A Geist-Bound name should embody the trauma of death and the power of the Geist within. Ponder these:
- Does the name sound like a lament, a grim warning, or a defiance of death?
- Does the title reflect the Geist's nature (e.g., 'Grave,' 'Ashen,' 'Silent')?
- Should it hint at the character's death (e.g., ‘Last-Singer’) or their new role?
- Does the name capture their current Krew's focus (e.g., Boneyard, Ashwood)?
- Will the name be overtly morbid or subtly spectral?
Geist-Bound Name FAQs
Questions about naming your Sin-Eater in the World of Darkness:
How are Geist-Bound names generated?
It combines human first names with dark, hyphenated surnames (titles) based on concepts of death, grief, and the spectral realm, echoing the sin-eater’s bond with their Geist.
Can I use these names for ghosts or wraiths?
Absolutely-the spectral, mournful quality of the titles makes them ideal names for powerful ghosts, wraiths, or other death-related entities in any dark fantasy setting.
Do the names reflect the Geist's Type?
While not explicitly linked to the Geist's Type (like the Rotter or the Collector), the thematic titles allow you to easily find one that resonates with your Geist’s personality.
How many names can I generate?
Unlimited-click as often as you like to summon the perfect alias from the Underworld.
How do I copy or save a name?
