The Zandalari Empire
The Zandalari rose long before the sundering of the trolls into Amani, Gurubashi, Drakkari, and Farraki tribes. From their mountain home of Zandalar they sent forth colonists, prophets, and conquerors, founding empires that once spanned much of ancient Kalimdor. Today they remain the keepers of troll lore, masters of pyramid architecture, and devoted servants of the Loa, the ancestral spirits who grant them power.
Society and Faith
Zandalari society centers on Dazar'alor, the great golden ziggurat capital, where the Zandalari king or queen rules with the blessing of the Loa. Prophets, priests, and warriors form the noble castes, each devoted to a particular Loa such as Rezan the king of kings or Bwonsamdi the lord of death. Honor, lineage, and prophecy guide every major decision in their lives.
Naming Conventions
Zandalari names sound regal and ancient, often featuring apostrophes that mark glottal stops and lyrical syllables drawn from Mesoamerican and African inspirations. Common elements include 'Zul', 'Jin', 'Rastakhan', 'Talanji', and 'Hexx', and titles like Prophet, King, or High Priest frequently accompany them. The names project authority and divine favor in equal measure.
Using These Names
Use these names for Zandalari player characters joining the Horde, NPC nobles in Dazar'alor, prophets serving the Loa, or villains scheming against Azeroth. They suit any setting that demands a proud, ancient civilization steeped in faith, gold, and the weight of unbroken history.
