How the relics are named
Each result usually pairs an evocative noun, such as Talisman, Brand, Sigil, or Horn, with a charged descriptor tied to a person, deed, or emotion. Some names lean into Norse imagery of frost, ravens, and oaths, while others reach back to the Greek arc of fate, hubris, and blood. The goal is a title that sounds at home in a menu beside Mistbourne or Andvari, with enough weight to suggest a story without spelling it out.
Where to use a relic name
Writers can hand a fresh relic to a wandering character and let the name shape the side story it unlocks. Tabletop game masters can use a result as a unique reward for a shrine puzzle or a defeated Traveler, then design mechanics that match the tone of the title. World builders can also use the names to populate museum style entries in a setting bible, hinting at past wars, fallen heroes, or god touched bargains without committing to every detail at once.
Picking a relic that fits
Read the name and ask what kind of person hid it, what they hoped it would do, and who would kill to have it now. If the name feels grand, give it a quest. If it feels intimate, tie it to a single grieving character. When the title and your scene start to shape each other, you know the relic belongs in your version of the Nine Realms or the broken halls of Olympus.
Unearthing Ancient Power
Ready to name your legendary item? Consider these questions:
- Does the name hint at its material, like "Basalt" or "Bronze"?
- What is its primary function-protection, attack, or magic?
- Does it belong to a specific god, hero, or forgotten culture?
- Will it sound ancient and grand or mysterious and subtle?
- Could the name itself foreshadow its true power?
