Verses from the Pattern
A good Wheel of Time prophecy hides its meaning in plain sight. It names a banner without naming a king, a wound without naming a blade, a city without naming the day it falls. This generator follows that pattern, mixing imagery of the Wheel, the Pattern, the Dragon, and the Shadow into lines that feel both ancient and oddly specific once events catch up.
What the generator produces
- Short verses suited to the Karaethon Cycle and other written prophecies.
- Foretellings in the voice of an Aes Sedai gripped by the gift, brief and unwilling.
- Aiel Wise One dreams cast in plainer, harder words.
- Min-style viewings rendered as compact omens around a single person.
How to weave them into a story
Drop one line into an old book your characters find in a Tairen library, then let it sit for chapters before its meaning lands. Use a foretelling to break a quiet council, with the speaker collapsing afterward and remembering nothing. Hand a Wise One a dream about a wetlander and watch her decide whether to share it. The lines are tools for delayed payoff, not instant answers.
Tips for tone
Keep verbs strong and adjectives few. Prophecy lines hit hardest when readers can almost picture the scene without knowing whose it is. Mix several results into a single passage, give them rhythm with line breaks, and let the rest of your story do the slow work of turning each one true.
Weaving Your Prophecy
Crafting a cryptic prophecy? Consider these questions:
- Does the prophecy hint at a major character or event?
- Is it foreboding or hopeful, or a mix of both?
- How will the line sound when spoken-is it rhythmic or unsettling?
- Will it feel as though it's part of a larger, epic text?
- Does it feel like it belongs in the world of the Pattern and the Dragon?
