Two Tribes, Two Traditions
The Miqo'te are divided into Seekers of the Sun and Keepers of the Moon, and the split runs all the way down to their names. Seekers organise themselves around tribes named for animals, each represented by a letter that opens every male name in that tribe. Keepers, by contrast, follow a matriarchal pattern in which mothers pass numbered forename roots to their children, with the eldest daughter inheriting the line. Knowing which tribe your character belongs to is the first step to a name that holds up in lore conversations.
Seeker of the Sun Names
Seeker males carry a tribal letter, a personal name, an apostrophe, the letter of their nunh (the patriarch they descend from), and a suffix that marks their position. A name like J'thavi Tia tells you the tribe, the personal name, the patriarch, and the unmarried status. Females use a similar structure without the patriarch letter, producing names like J'nava Nbolo. Seeker names tend to be sharp and percussive, full of plosives and short vowels that carry well across the savanna the tribes call home.
Keeper of the Moon Names
Keepers use a numbered prefix that signals birth order in the matriline, attached to a forename root passed from mother to child. The result is something like Y'shtola or Sezul Totoloc, names that flow more softly than their Seeker counterparts. Keepers live in smaller family groups in the woodlands, and their names reflect a culture that values lineage, secrecy, and the moon's quieter light. The numbered prefix is more than ornament. It is a record of where this person stands in the long chain of mothers and daughters.
Choosing a Name That Fits
When picking from the generator, think about your character's story before you commit. A wandering Seeker bachelor will wear his Tia suffix differently than a settled nunh. A Keeper youngest daughter carries a different weight than a firstborn heir. Read names aloud, since Miqo'te names are full of sounds that look stranger on the page than they sound in speech. The right choice will feel like it has always belonged to your character, waiting only for you to call it home.
