How do people come up with names for serial killers?
Serial killers generally have one thing in common: they're creative when it comes to coming up with names for themselves. Some use nicknames they've had since childhood, while others create new ones that reflect their murderous desires.
Many killers take on names that are meant to strike fear into their victims, such as "The Night Stalker" or "The BTK Killer". Others use names that are more subtle, like "The Zodiac Killer" or "Son of Sam". Some even go so far as to create entire alter egos for themselves, complete with different names, appearances, and backstories.
No matter what approach they take, one thing is clear: serial killers put a lot of thought into their names. After all, it's one of the first things their victims will learn about them. And for some killers, that's exactly the point.
A history of killers
Typically, when people hear the word "killer," they think of psychotic mass murderers, serial killers, and maniac killers. However, the history of murderers goes much further back, with some of the earliest written accounts of violent acts committed by individuals or groups. Some people or groups of people in ancient societies were willing to kill other people to accomplish various goals or tasks. For instance, the Massacre of the Heretic Pharaohs, during the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt, resulted in the deaths of numerous Pharaohs at the hands of their own people. Some people in ancient China used the martial arts to kill, and General Sun Tzu wrote a book about how to use these tactics to their full potential. The Hippocrates Oath warned against the misuse of medicine and made it a point to discourage doctors from killing people. In ancient Greece, the government used executioners to execute criminals. Despite the fact that most law-abiding Roman citizens were prohibited from committing suicide, gladiatorial games often led to murder. During the Middle Ages, executioners were the most common method of capital punishment, and numerous public executions were carried out in the heart of towns. A rise in violence and a rise in the number of people killed occurred as a result of the use of hired killers by numerous religious authorities and noble families to settle enmities and uphold their beliefs. Assassination was a method used by leaders all over the world in the 19th century to drive out opponents. The effectiveness of this strategy was demonstrated by the assassinations of the Russian Tsar Alexander II, the United States President Abraham Lincoln, and the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand. There was a rise in the number of people who were known as "serial killers" and "spree killers" during the 20th century. These people killed multiple people over a long period of time, often without a clear motive. Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, and the Zodiac Killer were all serial killers whose gruesome crimes made them famous, while Charles Whitman was a spree killer whose random acts of violence made people afraid. Killers have existed throughout human history, with some of the earliest records relating to these heinous deeds. These acts of violence have persisted throughout human history, from the ancient world to modern serial killers, and it is likely that they will continue to be a part of humanity's story for the foreseeable future.
