Story Notes Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how I (Martin Hooijmans), through the Story Shack Notes Chrome Extension (“the Extension”), collect, use, and protect your information.

1. Data Collection and Use

The Extension is a lightweight, distraction-free note-taking and writing tool. It runs locally in your browser, and I do not transmit your personal notes or content to any external server.

1.1. Locally Stored Data (Your Notes and Preferences)

• What I collect:

  • Your Notes and Content: All text, formatting, and images you create or paste into the editor.
  • To-Do Item States: The completion status of your to-do list items.
  • Display Preferences: Your chosen theme (light/dark mode), the current content mode (image, quote, or prompt), and the state of distraction-free mode.
  • Pinned Content: The URLs of pinned images, or the text of pinned quotes and writing prompts.
  • Preloaded Content URLs: A single URL for the next random image to be displayed.

• How I use it:

  • This data is stored locally in your browser’s local storage.
  • I use it solely to provide the core functionality of the Extension, letting you save notes, keep preferences, and resume work across sessions.
  • I never transmit this data to my servers or any other external servers. It stays entirely on your device.

• Data retention:
  Your locally stored data remains until you manually clear the Extension’s local storage, uninstall the Extension, or if your browser automatically clears local data.

1.2. External Content Fetching

• What I fetch:

  • The Extension requests random inspirational images, quotes, and writing prompts from my APIs at
    https://assets.thestoryshack.com/visual-prompts/ and https://story-shack-cdn.deno.dev/.

• How I use it:

  • These requests are anonymous and do not include any personally identifiable information or your locally stored notes.
  • The fetched content appears in the Extension for your inspiration and is not stored persistently on my servers.

• Data sharing:
  I do not share your personal data (notes, preferences) with these external content providers. All requests are generic and retrieve only public content.

1.3. Third-Party Libraries

• I rely on third-party libraries (e.g., Quill.js for the editor, Font Awesome for icons, Google Fonts for typography).
• Google Fonts: Your browser may request font files from Google Fonts; Google’s privacy policy applies.
• Font Awesome: Icons load from the Font Awesome CDN; their privacy policy applies.
• Quill.js: This client-side library does not transmit data externally.

2. No Personal Information Collected

I do not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (such as your name, email, IP address, or browsing history) to my servers or any third-party servers. Your notes and preferences stay on your local device.

3. Changes to This Privacy Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. I will post any changes here with a revised “Last updated” date. Please review it periodically for updates.
